Spending Weekend With Spouse In A Budget

Written by Syra Salam

When you’re stuck in your everyday life, it isn’t easy to keep the flame going in your marriage. So, a romantic weekend getaway is just what the doctor ordered to reignite the romance — but the cost!

It’s not that you and your partner aren’t concerned. However, life happens. Life takes a mature turn, such as kids, jobs, and loans. You commit a great deal of time and money, and effort to provide a good life for your family. But don’t forget about your relationship. It’s essential to keep in touch, and dates are a great way to do so. The best thing is that great dates don’t have to be expensive to be enjoyable.

“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo. But you want someone who’ll help you catch the bus,” — Oprah Winfrey

So, now that you know that being together is the essential thing in a marriage, we have some budget-friendly ideas for you to have an exciting weekend getaway.

Go for a picnic, but do something different

A park picnic is the best. It’s very cool. It’s delightful. It’s a classic for a purpose, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it a little more interesting. How about this:

  • A picnic and kite flying. You can purchase a kite for a low price.
  • Hike (or drive) to a beautiful lakeside for a picnic with a spectacular view. Look for scenic spots in your area and visit them.
  • See the trains pass by while having a picnic near the railroad tracks.
  • Picnic in the vicinity of a private airfield. Outside of private airports, there is always a grassy field.
  • Enjoy a picnic while watching fireworks.
  • A picnic at the vineyard or movie will also work.

Take a weekend road trip

Try a Saturday Road trip for an out-of-the-ordinary, low-cost holiday. Getting there isn’t just part of the fun with this type of travel; it’s the whole thing. You can travel along beautiful winding roads, stopping at an attractive location you come across. Rather than travelling to a city and searching for ways to pass the time there, you make the trip fun.

You can’t go too far away from home if you just have two days for a road trip. Do an online search for “weekend road trips” plus your town’s name to get some ideas. Choose a destination that interests you, plan a path, pack your stuff, and get on the road. You can either prepare ahead of time where you’ll stay and eat or make finding them part of the trip.

Enjoy a movie

Don’t just sit at home idly on a couch. Do not pay $50 for a movie for two people, including popcorn and drinks. Instead, consider these low-cost date movie options.

Many places have free movies; all you have to do is look up your neighborhood’s events online. It’ll most likely be family fare, and the picture and sound quality won’t be the best, but free is hard to beat. So, bring a blanket or tables, a picnic basket, and sit back and relax.

There are theatres all over the state, many of them housed in beautifully restored, historic structures that sell discounted movie tickets after they’ve left the major movie studios. Of course, fresh popcorn is often served, and candy can be purchased. But, let’s face it, buying it there (instead of bringing it in) makes it more enjoyable.

If you have the perks to live near a drive-in movie theatre, you’re in for a real treat. For about $20, the two of you will enjoy a film, a large bowl of freshly popped popcorn with butter, a snack, and a romantic evening under the stars. Some places let you bring your stuff, so bring snacks and enjoy this take on a romantic movie.

Get a coffee at your favorite place and talk!

For married couples, a visit to a nearby coffee shop is often a welcome activity. You might simply sit next to each other and read a favorite book or magazine, but why not try something new and exciting? Shake it up by focusing on each other to make it a pleasant date. Put your phones and other distractions away and just relax, drink, and chat. This is a perfect way to communicate because it is a back-to-basic date concept.

It’s okay if you don’t know what to talk about. There are many advantages of simply sitting side by side contentedly. It’s possible that this would make you feel like you’re dating again!

Don’t go anywhere, relive your wedding day at home

Remember one of the best times you’ve ever shared? Your wedding day was such a memorable occasion that it needs to be remembered not just on your anniversary but every special time.

Spend time together recalling about your union and what your life has become for a special weekend with your partner. Get the photo albums, watch your wedding video, and go through every aspect of the day. Bring some special keepsakes from your wedding day out as well.

Have a mini renewal of vows. Then, in the living room, dance to your wedding song. Regardless of how you want to celebrate this wonderfully special day, you’ll know why you chose to marry this fantastic individual when you spend time together.

Final words

What makes a romantic weekend fun is putting the routine aside for a few days and concentrating solely on each other. There’s no need to be harsh on your budget on a five-star hotel or a luxurious trip to Paris. The most significant thing is to spend quality time together. It’s not the atmosphere that induces romance when you’re really in love. Instead, it’s an opportunity to spend a couple of days together and enjoy each other’s company.

Don’t forget that there are way too many other ways to save money on holiday, including transportation, hotels, and food. These suggestions are as applicable to a romantic getaway as they are to every other type of vacation.
