Stages of Self-Love

1.      Self-Awareness

It is impossible to take care of yourself without knowing where the void lies. To cope with this problem, it is crucial to be self-aware, which will help you improve and overcome your shortcomings in the long run. Self-care also gives a starting point that further helps in evaluating how much progress we have made so far.

Moreover, by being self-aware, you can manage your thoughts better and understand what gives you motivation, happiness, contentment, and relaxation and what leads you to be disappointed, sad, distressed, or angry. Most importantly, you will get familiarised with your deep-rooted values that pattern your personality and life choices. Without a thorough understanding of your values, you might have a hard time taking care of your well-being. It certainly is not an instant way to fix your problems, but it indeed is a profound step toward amelioration.

2.      Self-Acceptance

While reflecting on your inner self, your mind probably has no liking for few things. But that is okay! We all are humans, and let us accept it; we all have our fair share of flaws. However, the key here is self-acceptance, allowing you to embrace yourself and accept yourself the way you indeed are.

Self-acceptance also means giving yourself room for errors and embracing your values, nevertheless. While practising self-love, the prime goal should not be to change your inner-self, but it should help you take up who you are and acknowledge your individuality. The more you accept your flaws, behaviour, attitude, and thoughts, the better you will be at loving yourself and furthering your journey of desirable change.

3.      Self-Confidence

Self-acceptance will automatically call for self-confidence, which will help you to show your true self to the world. Conversely, you can suffer from low self-esteem without self-confidence, which will further lead you to mull over your flaws and errors.

Moreover, you can also end up feeling anxious or depressed that further leads one to be withdrawn from the rest of the world. For this reason, you must keep your tank filled with confidence, which will help you abolish the cycle of over-thinking and eliminate your inner critic.

To exercise self-love, you should not shy away from being yourself and always feel honoured of whatever you have achieved as a person. Never let others be the reason for you hiding your true authentic self. It takes an immense amount of courage to put the stereotypes in the back seat and give utmost respect to your values more than others. But that is precisely what you are supposed to do at every single step of your life.

4.      Self-Love

So the very last stage of the journey towards a positive change is self-love. From this point, you will make a promise to be committed to only your growth and well-being. With this commitment, you will not anything come in the way of your personal development.

You will have to remind yourself daily to take care of yourself and do everything that you deserve to have in life. This is a promise that you will make to yourself, for yourself!

Why Self-Love is Important in Relationships

We all are familiar with the statement, “you have to learn to love yourself first before loving someone else” Despite being a super plain statement, it can be pretty hard to comprehend for many individuals. Yet, self-love plays a significant role in relationships without us realizing it because the way we treat ourselves will always determine the quality of our relationships with others. Here are some points to help you understand how self-love impacts the love we receive and reciprocate back to others:

  • Not treating yourself with love and respect will give a green signal to people for treating you the same way.
  • With self-love, you will not have to depend on others to make you feel loved. Relying too much on others for receiving can turn out to be toxic and unhealthy.
  • You will be able to uplift, support, and empower others when you are self-confident yourself.
  • You will be enabled to set healthy boundaries and protect your energy.

Loving yourself might seem like an alien concept to many of us. However, it requires you to take out only a few minutes from your routine and reflect on your inner-self. It will positively impact your body and mind, enabling you to de-stress and know what is essential in your life.
